On July 1, 2016 a new form
of leave will become a right under Wisconsin law: Bone Marrow and Organ
Donation. Under the new law, enacted without much fanfare on April 1, 2016,
employees have the right to up to six weeks of unpaid leave "for the
purpose of serving as a bone marrow or organ donor if the employee provides
his/her employer with written verification." Although the law is not
formally a part of the Wisconsin Family Leave Act, the rights and remedies under
the law are essentially the same, including eligibility requirements.
